James "Son" Thomas

Biography:

James "Son" Thomas was born in Eden, Mississippi on Oct. 14, 1926. Thomas began making art full time in 1971. He was known for his clay figures, and more popularly, his clay skulls, which often included real teeth. Aside from being recognized for his art, Thomas was also a well-known Delta Blues musician. He has also appeared in the films Mississippi Delta Blues, Give My Poor Heart Ease and Delta Blues Singer. Thomas passed away June 26, 1993, in a nursing home in Greenville, Mississippi and was survived by his wife, eight daughters and five sons.
